About Me
My name is Melissa Kalson and I'm 49 years old. I live in Little Rock, Arkansas. Originally I'm from Louisiana; my husband is from Pennsylvania and the first two of our four sons were born in PA. while the two younger sons (yes, we have four boys - all grown now) were born in Washington State where we lived for seventeen years. Our four sons are all grown; the oldest is 24; then 22; then 21 and then 20.
I've been writing since the age of 14, when I started writing as I traveled during the summer with my father. I remember asking him to buy me pads of paper and pens and he gladly did so. That was the beginning of a lifelong love with words; of course, it goes without saying that I love to read as well; fiction, non-fiction, historical, biographical, mysteries, romance, etc.
I'm looking to work as a freelance copywriter/proofreader and to also get into web writing as well. I feel that it's just a natural extension of my writing abilities. I've always been told that I write very well and have a great command of descriptive language, so that should help with copy writing and writing good sales letters. I do have one self-published short story on the Internet, which for reasons right now I shall not name or post until I get the page revised and re-edited. I also have numerous works of writing that are in various stages of progress. However, as I am studying for my Bachelor of Arts in History Degree and am only a few months away from graduating and with honors, that does not leave me much time for writing that isn't academically related. Though this kind of writing, which would be earning me bread and butter (quite literally :) would be a different but necessary kind of writing.
I also have some ambitious plans to write a non-fiction book on life with an autistic person; our second oldest son who is 22 years old has autism. I also have another ambitious work in the offing; either a fictionalized version or non-fiction life story of my father who was a 1940's Grand Old Opry singer and bandleader. Most have not ever heard of my father, Paul Jack Howard, but he was famous in his own way and in his own time. Of course he has been gone a long time; he passed away in 1984 when I was only 21 years old. So those are some of my projects that I hope to accomplish in the future. My short story that I mentioned in the above paragraph is also a fictionalized version of life with my autistic son and most of the experiences in there, are things that I have actually experienced in actuality. FYI!!
